ஸ்ரீ ரா.கணபதி கண்ட மஹாபெரியவா

– பெருமுக்கல் சாதுர்மாஸ்யம் முடித்து விஸ்வரூப யாத்ரையில் ஆலயம் வந்த பூர்வாச்சாரியரைப் பார்த்த ஸ்வாமிநாதனுக்கு “இன்னன்னு சொல்லத் தெரியாத ஏதோ ஒண்ணு மனஸூல ஆழப் பதிஞ்சுது” தான்!
இரண்டு நாள்கள் பீடாதிபர் பாலனைப் பன்முறை கூப்பிட்டு நிறைய உரையாடியபோது ஆத்ம சம்பந்தமாக ஏதும் கேட்கவில்லையா என்று ஸ்ரீ சரணாளை வினவியதற்கு அவர் அருளிய மறுமொழி:
“இல்லே-ன்னுதான் நெனக்கறேன். முக்யமா, புத்திசாலித்தனத்தை டெஸ்ட் பண்ணிப் பாக்கறதாத்தான் கேட்டார். பதில் சொன்னேன்-னு தோண்றது. [அப்படி அவர் கேட்டு இவர் சொன்ன பதில்களில் அவர் அடைந்த பரம திருப்தியைச் சொல்லாத எளிமையைப் பாருங்கள்!]
“ஆத்ம ஸம்பந்தமா ஏதாவது சொல்லலாம்னா மொத வருஷந்தான் [இதற்கு முந்தைய ஆண்டுதான்] எனக்குப் பூணல்-கல்யாணமாயிருந்தது. அதைப் பத்திக் கேட்டார். ரெகுலரா ஸந்தியாவந்தனம் பண்றேன்-கிறதுல ஸந்தோஷப்பட்டார். பூணலானதும் வழக்கமா கத்துக்கறதெல்லாம் கத்துண்டு வரேன்; அதுக்காகவே அப்பா ஸமஸ்கிருதத்துல ட்யூஷன் வெச்சிருக்கார்-ங்கிறதுலேயும் ஸந்தோஷப்பட்டார். [ஸமஸ்க்ருதமும், பாராயண ஸூக்தங்களும் ஸ்தோத்ரங்களும் கற்றுக் கொள்ள ஆரம்பித்து அந்தச் சில மாதங்களிலேயே பாலன் நிறைய மனப்பாடமாக்கிக் கொண்டு விட்டான்; பள்ளிப் படிப்பிலும் முதலாக இருந்து கொண்டே இதையும் செய்திருக்கிறான் என்பதால் பூர்வாச்சாரியர் பெற்ற மகிழ்ச்சிப் பூரிப்பை லேசாகத்தான் ஸ்ரீசரணர் மழுப்பிப் போனார். அநேகமாக ரா.க.வே. ‘லீடிங் கொஸ்ச்சி’ னாகக் கேட்டுத்தான் இதைத் தெரிந்துக் கொண்டது!]
ஸ்ரீமட நிர்வாகம் பாலனுக்குப் போகவிருக்கிறது என்பதை மனத்தில் கொண்டு பூர்வாச்சாரியர் ஏதேனும் சங்கேதமாகவேனும் சொன்னதோ, வினவியதோ உண்டா என்று ஸ்ரீசரணாளைக் கேட்டதற்கு அவர், “அப்படி ஓண்ணும் நிச்சயப்படுத்திச் சொல்லத் தெரியலே, க்ளாஸ்ல ஃப்ர்ஸ்ட் ஆச்சே, அதனால மானிட்டரா இருந்தேனா-ன்னு கேட்டிருக்கார். அதுல மத்த பசங்களை மேச்சுக் கட்டற ஸாமர்த்தியம் இருக்கோல்லியோ? அதனால கேட்டதாகவும் இருக்கலாம்” என்றார்.
ஆனால் தாம் மானிட்டராக இருந்ததாகவோ இல்லாததாகவோ ஸ்ரீசரணர் ஏதும் சொன்னதாக நினைவில்லை. அவர் சொல்லியும் துரத்ருஷ்டவசமாக நான் நெஞ்சத் திரையிலோ, காகிதத்திலோ பதிந்து கொள்ளத் தவறியும் இருக்கலாம்.
பள்ளியில் பேச்சுப் போட்டி, நாடக வசனம் ஒப்பிப்பது முதலானவற்றில் பாலன் முதலாக நின்றதாக அறிந்து பரமகுருஸ்வாமி மகிழ்வெய்தினாராம்.
மிகவும் ஆச்சர்யமானதொரு விஷயம். ஸ்வாமிநாதன் வருங்கால பீடாதிபதிகள் என்று அந்தப் பெருமுக்கல் வாஸத்தின்போதே பரமகுரு தீர்மானித்து, அதை அணுக்கமான சிலருக்குத் தெரிவித்ததாக அறிய வருகிறோம். ஆயினும் அவன் மிஷனரிப் பள்ளியில் பொதுக் கல்வி பயில்வதை நிறுத்தி அவனுக்கு சாஸ்திராப்யாஸம் தருமாறு பாலனின் தகப்பனாரிடம் அவர் சொல்லவில்லை!
தகப்பனாரிடம் மகன் விஷயமாகத் தம் முடிவைத் தெரிவிக்க அது சமயமல்ல என்று அவர் கருதினார் போலும். வாய்மொழியாக அவர் முடிவு தெரிவித்து பாலனின் தந்தையின் சம்மதம் பெற பிற்பாடும் சமயம் வரவேயில்லை! தந்தையார் தாம் அலுவல் செய்து வந்த அரசின் கல்வித் துறைக் கூட்டமொன்றுக்குத் திருச்சி சென்றிருந்த போது அவ்விடத்துக்கு ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் அவசரத் தந்தி பறந்து, அவரது அவசரப் பதில் தந்தி மூலந்தான் சம்மதம் பெறப்பட்டு, ஸ்வாமிநாதப் பிரம்மசாரி சங்கராசார்ய சந்நியாசி ஆனது!
பவன்ஸ் ஜர்னல் கட்டுரையிலிருந்தும், பிற்பாடு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாள் நேர்ப்பட கூறியதிலிருந்தும் ஸ்வாமிநாதனை அடுத்த வாரிசாகப் பூர்வாச்சாரியர் சங்கற்பித்திருந்தது அவனுக்கு அடியோடு தெரியாது என்றே ஏற்படுகிறது. ஆறேழு மாதத்திற்கு அப்புறம் எதிர்பாராத திருப்பங்கள் ஏற்பட்டு, ஸ்ரீமடத்துச் சிப்பந்திகளுடன் ஸ்வாமிநாதன் அப்போதைய மடமுகாமான வடார்கட்டுக் கலவைக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்ட வழியில் அவன்தான் உடனே பீடாதிபதி ஆகப்போகிறான் என்று மடத்து மேஸ்த்ரி தெரிவித்தபோது அவன் அப்படியே விலவிலத்துப் போய்விட்டான் என்று பவன்’ஸ் கட்டுரை தெளிவாகக் காட்டுகிறது. பூர்வாச்சரியரிடமிருந்து ஆவனுக்கு அது பற்றிப் பூர்வ சங்கேதம் ஏதும் இல்லாததால்தானே அப்படி விலவிலத்திருக்க வேண்டும்?
எளிப்படவோ, சங்கேதமாகவோ ஒரு மஹான், தமது அல்லது தெய்வத்தின் கருத்தைத் தெரிவியாவிடினும் கூடச் சில சமயங்களில் குருவிடம் சிஷ்யருக்குள்ள ‘உள்’ தொடர்பினால் அது ஒரு விதத்தில் தெரிவதுண்டு.. ‘சில’ சமயங்களில்தான். பராசக்தியின் மாயா நாடகத்தில், பரம சிஷ்யருங்கூட குருநாதரின் திருவுள்ளம் அறியத் தவறுவதுண்டு. எனவே பாலன் ஸ்வாமிநாதன் தனது அதிப்ரிய பூஜ்ய ஆசாரியனின் திரு உள்ளத்தை உடனுக்குடனே உணரத் தவறியிருப்பினும் அதில் வியப்பதற்கு ஏதுமில்லை. வித்தின் மீது மழைத்துளி விழுந்தவுடன் அது முளையிட்டு விடுகிறதா என்ன? அப்போதைக்கு வித்து மழை நீரை வாங்கிக் கொண்டதாகவே தோன்றாது. ஆயினும் அவகாசம் கொடுத்தால் அதனின்று பச்சென ஒரு முளை வெளி வருவதைக் காண்போம். அப்புறம் அது சின்னஞ்சிறு கன்றாக, செடியாக, மரமாக ஆகியே விடுகிறது!
பள்ளி ஆசிரியர்கள் கேள்வி கேட்டால் எப்படித் தயங்காமல் விடை சொல்வானோ, அப்படியேதான் ஸ்வாமிநாதன் ஸ்வாமிகளின் கேள்விகளுக்கும் விடை பகர்ந்தான். யதி சிரேஷ்டர் இக் குழந்தையின் உருவ அழகிலும், அறிவின் அழகிலும் கவரப் பெற்றார். பந்தமற்ற அவர் அவனைக் குறித்து ஒரு தனிச் சொந்தம் கொண்டாடுவது போன்ற உணர்வுடன், :இந்தப் பிள்ளையைப் பார்த்தீர்களோ? இவன் மேதையைப் பார்த்தீர்களோ?” என்று அங்கே இருந்தோர்களிடம் பெருமையடித்துக் கொண்டார். சடேரென்று, “இவன் மிகப் பெரியவனாக விளங்கப் போகிறான்” என்று கம்பீரமான மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினார்.
அப்போதுங்கூட ஸ்வாமிநாதனோ, தந்தை சுப்ரமண்ய சாஸ்த்ரிகளோ அந்தப் ‘பெரியவன்’ ‘பெரியவா’ளாகவும், ‘மஹாபெரியவா’ளாகவும் பீடப்பேரரசு பெறப்போவதாக ஊகிக்கவில்லை.
சாஸ்திரிகள் குடும்பத்துடன் திண்டிவனம் புறப்பட்டார். அதன் பின்னரும் அடிக்கடி ஸ்வாமிநாதனை மடத்தின் முகாமுக்கு இட்டு வருமாறு ஸ்வாமிகள் உத்தரவிட்டார். அவ்வாறே சாஸ்திரிகளும் செய்தார்.
நீரில் வித்து மேன்மேலும் ஊறலாயிற்று!

STEP 4.
When the ChAturmAsya Vratam in the village was completed and PoorvAchAryAr came to the temple in His ‘Vishwa Roopa YAtrA’, Swaminathan saw Him and ‘something which cannot be expressed in words was etched deep in my mind’.
When asked if anything related to ‘AtmA’ was not asked by Him while He called the ‘boy’ and talked to him during the two days, Sree SaranAl replied,
“I THINK He didn’t. His questions were mostly ‘to test my intelligence’, and I THINK I answered (Look at the humility in not expressing the satisfaction the PeetAthipati had after hearing his answers to His questions!)
“If at all something related to AtmA happened, my Upanayanam was performed the previous year only. He asked me about it. He was pleased to know that I performed SandhyAvandhanam regularly. He was also pleased to know that I was learning whatever there was to be learnt after Upanayanam and that for that purpose, my father had arranged tuition for Samskrit; ( Swaminathan, studied Samskritam, SlOkAs, and learnt by heart ‘PArAyana’ books within those few months. PoorvAchAryAr was extremely pleased that Swaminathan, in addition to studying the school lessons, had also done this! But Sree Saranal evaded this matter ! Ra.Ganapathy had to eke out all this by putting some leading questions!)
When asked if PoorvAchAryAr had given any slight hint about His decision to hand over the administration of See Matam to him, Sree SaranAl answered, “ I cannot say anything with certainty; He asked me if I was made the class monitor as I stood first in the class. Monitor has to manage the other students and that requires some skill, is it not? He might have asked that question because of that!”
I do not remember if Sree SaranAl told me if he was the class monitor. May be, He would have said something, but I might have failed to register it in my mind or noted it down in paper.
‘ParamaGuru’ was extremely pleased to know that Swaminathan stood first in oratorical competition, recitation of Drama dialogues etc.
One surprising thing in this is that though the ‘ParamaGuru’ had decided during the stay in Perumookkal itself that Swaminathan was to be the next Peetathipathi and had informed some of His close attendants, He did not ask his father to stop his education in the missionary school and start ‘SAstrAbyAsam’ (study of SAstrAs) ! He probably thought that it was not time to inform the father of His decision about his son. But, ‘that’ time when He could inform his father and obtain his permission never came. When his father had gone to Trichy to attend an official meeting, the telegram from Sree Matam was sent to him, and his permission was obtained through telegram. Swaminathan, the ‘Brahmachari’ became Sankaracharya ‘SanyAsi’ !
From the article in Bhavan’s journal, and from what Sree PeriavA told me in person, it looks that Swaminathan was totally unaware of the decision made by the ‘PoorvAchAryar’ to make him the next heir of Sree Matam. After six or seven months, there were unexpected turn of events, and when Swaminathan was taken to Kalavai (the Sree Matam camp at that time) along with the attendants of SreeMatam, on the way, the supervisor of Matam told him that he was going to become the Peetathipathi, he was shaken totally—-says the article in Bavan’s journal. It must be because he had no hint about that from the PoorvAchAryar.
Even though a MahAn’ does not reveal His or God’s will either openly or by a hint,, sometimes, because of the deeper connection that a ‘SishyA’ has with his Guru, it will be known in some way. ‘Sometimes’ only! In the drama of illusion enacted by ParAsahakthi,, even the best ‘SishyA’ might fail to understand the will of his Guru. Therefore there is no wonder that child Swaminathan failed to understand his Guru’s wish immediately. Does a seed sprout as soon as the rain drop falls on it? It will not be known if the seed absorbed the rain drop at all. But, given the time, we will see a leaf sprout out of the seed. Then it will become a small sapling, grow into a plant and then a big tree!
Swaminathan answered the questions posed by Swamikal, as fluently as he would answer his teacher’s questions in the school, without any hesitation whatsoever. Gurunathar, was attracted by the child’s physical beauty, and intelligence. He used to boast with others, saying, “Did you see this boy? Did you notice his genius ?” with a special affinity towards the boy. Even at that time, neither Swaminathan nor his father Subramanya Sastrikal had no hint that Swaminathan would become ‘Periava’ and then ‘MahaPeriava’ to adorn the Peetam!
Sastrikal left for Tindivanam with his family. Even after that, Swamikal used to ask His attendants to bring Swaminathan to the camp and Sastrikal readily obliged.
The seed started soaking in water more and more!
